The Great Artist.

"A person whose work exhibits exceptional skill."

When looking up the definition of an "artist" , this is the one I found which I though was most appropriate for the thoughts I am having at the moment. For the past few weeks I have been thinking creative thoughts, this is possibly due to the amount of free time I currently have on my hands after exams , but my brain is feeling creative and "artistic " at the moment. I find myself writing more, and trying some more art projects then I would have had the time for before.

There has been more then my own creativity on my mind of late, the creative minds of others has also been playing a role in my thought process . The artist and creators of this world are so profound , so interesting and so mind-boggling  that one can't help but think a little deeper about them and their creations . The people behind the great masterpieces of the world.

We are surrounded by the artistic genus of others everyday. The television and movies we see, the books we read, the pictures , paintings , signs, logos ....everything we use , see, touch has been created by someone else. The painting that hangs above my fire place could once have been the master piece of the artist . The music that is playing in the background is the work of some composer somewhere . What I am trying to say is that this world is, was and will be full of people with extraordinary talent and ability . Ability to create things of profound magnitude that we might not have the ability to understand for years and years to come. That is something I love about art, of any kind , different people can find different meanings within the same thing. If I look at Starry Night By Vincent van Gogh I could interpret a completely different meaning then someone else. That is the wonder of art, there is no specific meaning if you don't want there to be.

I have been luck to have seen first hand some of the works of art that have been labeled "the greatest" . I have stood in awe in front of Monet's water Lilies , I have been so close that I could touch Picasso's signature on one of his paintings , I have been in the same room as the infamous Mona Lisa painting . I have heard music from Bach , Rachmaninoff, Nina Simone , The Beatles. I have experienced beautiful things, seen , heard, felt beautiful things. I don't always understand them , but they were not created for me to understand .

Possibly the most profound thing about all of these incredible artists is that although they were and are all great...none of them , not even one of them were the greatest . Although so many of them have been deemed this , none of them have lived up to it . Michelangelo was a master of sculpting and painting , Bach was a master of music , Shakespeare was a master of words- but here is the amazing thing about all of that , they too had a master . Someone who was greater then them, better then them, a greater master then they could ever have even imagined .  The great creators who made all of these things had the greatest creator of all ... God.

Imagine that for a moment - all of these people who were deemed greater then the next could never have been , for the greatest of all was God who made them, made us. God gave them the ability to paint , sculpt , compose, play, perform and write . God gave everyone the ability to do something in this world...even to love and be loved in return is a gift from God.

Every day we live in has been a new day created by the Lord. This is the day the Lord has made , every tree , flower , humming bird , blue sky , starry night has been created , painted by the one who is greater then any other. How amazing is that ? It really is something we should not take for granted , we should appreciate everything God has given us . The people who can paint almost perfect trees on canvas is going from observation of something that was created - The Lord is maker , creator of all...even us, even the greats of the world. Our own creativity is just a replica of HIS. Your life is a fairy-tale written by Gods own fingertips. You are Gods poetry . You are his masterpiece.

I remember when I was younger it was said to me that no matter how good I was at something there would always be someone out there better then I was . This was not to discourage me in any way , it was really so I would not feel discouraged . If I could draw, someone could do it better, play an instrument..anything someone else was greater. The person who is better then me, also would have someone better then them - that's how it goes ; but it is only now that I fully understand the magnitude of that. Then I wonder what Da Vinci , Michelangelo  Bach and Shakespeare thought ? Maybe they though they were the greatest, but even the greatest has to have a teacher . Even the brilliant have to have a master.  Even the "greatest" has to have a great creator.

So next time you stop to look at a beautiful flower, a magnificent tree, one of the great wonders of the world, paintings, listen to music ...anything , think about where that really came from . Think of God dipping his paintbrush in and painting the world.

Having a creative Day

I woke up this working feeling pretty creative and wanting to unleash the artist (!!) inside me that has had to hide away for a little too long due to exams and studying and what not ; so I decided it was time to get my creative juices flowing and start another project .

It all started with a box of crayons and some canvas .

paper is down, ready to get "creative"

Things got a little bit messy , but hey that is half the fun...right ?
It's melting ....

Perhaps it is the child that is within me , or maybe the artist , but I enjoyed doing this to no end . No better way to release your built up creative juices then melting some crayons on a canvas .

Do you think I got enough pictures though ??? :)
